Say what now? Hygge? No, I'm not speaking English...
Hygge (hue-guh) is a wonderful Danish term you never knew was missing from your life. Hygge is finally a word to describe that undeniable cosy and content feeling of autumn and winter.
When you're cosied up under a fur blanket, with a warm cup of tea and your favourite film on, that is hygge.
So how can we get you feeling hygge? We've got 10 autumn activities to get you in the mood.
1. Bake a Pumpkin Loaf
Get your home smelling great and treat yourself to a delicious homemade pumpkin loaf. Let's face it, everything is pumpkin flavoured these days, so you may as well take part!
Check out this recipe from Once Upon a Chef.
2. Take a Candle Lit Bath
Is anything more relaxing than a candle lit bath? Make it extra special with one of your favourite bath bombs and Spotify playlist. (Psst.. Lush just released their fall collection)
3. Collect Pinecones for Decorations
I don't know about you, but pinecones always remind me of autumn and help get me into the spirit. Take a look through Pinterest and you will find countless ways you can use pinecones in your home for beautiful decorations. My favourite way of decorating them is dipping them in gold glitter.
4. Learn to Knit a Scarf
Who doesn't love knit wear? Knitting can be a great way to keep your hands busy on a wet day and is simple enough to learn in a day. YouTube has many great tutorials for complete beginners, and it can be so rewarding to gift someone with a homemade scarf.
5. Have a Hot Chocolate and Board Game Night
Gather some friends and family and have a board game night. Treat them to gourmet hot chocolate, set the mood and settle in for a fun evening for everyone.
6. Make Your Own Scented Candles
Around here, we are obsessed with candles (it is actually out of control). If you feel the same way and are wanting an enjoyable way (and cheaper way) to add to your candle collection consider making your own candles. Once you have the right equipment it is so easy and the possibilities for different scents and even jars are endless. All you need is some paraffin or soy wax, essential oils and empty tins or mason jars and a few tools. To get started check out this great starter pack from Amazon.
7. Go on A Fall Scavenger Hunt
Get out of the house and create a fall scavenger hunt for your kids. Breathe in that crisp air and search for mushrooms, conkers, acorns, pinecones, red leaves and all things autumnal.
8. Take an Early Morning Walk with your Favourite Cup of Coffee
What is more peaceful than a quiet walk in the morning? Wake up early and take a walk alone or with a friend with a great cup of coffee to take in the autumn scenery.
9. Have a Family Movie Night
Pile up the blankets and popcorn and gather together for a family movie marathon. There will be loads of fantastic Halloween films out on Netflix soon!
10. Get Lost in a Corn Maze
My personal favourite! Work together as a team in a group of friends or as a family and spend the day running around a corn maze together.
